What an NYC parking ticket is
If the paper is an NYC parking ticket (summons on the vehicle, barcode, 10-digit violation number beside the barcode), it is not the same as an NYC camera Notice of Liability (NOL number on a mailed photo notice). NYC .gov lists both under parking-or-camera services but gives different penalty clocks.
The points below are from NYC .gov and 311, retrieved 30 Aug 2026. Confirm the amount, violation number, and response methods printed on your ticket.
- NYC .gov: you must pay the fine or request a hearing within 30 days of the parking ticket to avoid penalties. (NYC parking-and-camera tickets hub; DOF dispute page; 311 KA-02036). That is the city's statement, not an instruction from us.
- Unpaid parking ticket penalties on the city hub: none before 30 days; $10 at 30 days; $20 plus previous at 60 days; $30 plus previous at 90 days; entered into judgment at 100 days. Unpaid camera NOLs use a different table ($25 at 30 days; judgment about 75 days). Do not mix the two tables.
- After judgment, the city says interest may be charged and the vehicle may be booted or towed.
- Finding the number: parking ticket, beside the barcode; camera NOL, top right, labeled NOL # or Notice #.
- Pay through CityPay, the NYC Parking Ticket Pay or Dispute app, or mail to NYC Department of Finance. NYC .gov: "Watch out for private companies that charge extra fees for paying your ticket. Paying directly is the safest and most affordable option." 2% processing fee for card, Venmo, or PayPal; none for check, electronic check, or money order.
- NYC DOF lists hearing methods as online, by mail, or in the official app, within 30 days of the ticket. DOF: contacting anyone other than the Department of Finance does not change the deadline. We do not tell you whether to request a hearing.
- Moving-violation tickets from a police officer are paid through the DMV, not this parking or camera process. (NYC hub)
We do not tell you whether to pay or request a hearing. We do not list winning defenses.
Violation.com does not sell an NYC parking PDF and does not collect NYC fines.
